Down to the Wire

As some of you may know, I’m finally applying to grad school, after more than two years of on-again, off-again plans. I was a little freaked out until last night because I hadn’t managed to get a hold of one of my professors (my favorite, no less) for a letter of recommendation. Since I don’t own a cell phone and don’t want to make a long-distance call from work (plus there’s the fact that my cube is pretty open, and I don’t like eavesdroppers), I figured my best chance was to call him after I got home and leave a message on his voicemail.

Luckily, he was still in his office when I called, and he agreed to write a letter for me. Boy, what a relief that was. I was really beginning to worry and was wondering who on earth I could get a hold of on such short notice to write me a letter. He said he’d be done with it this week (deadline’s a week from today), so it’s a good thing I called when I did and didn’t wait any longer.

Now I just have to go over my statement of intent again, get an interview with the bishop for an ecclesiastical endorsement, pay the application fee, and submit everything. That’s pretty manageable, but I still wish I had gotten started a little earlier and left myself more time. But I guess that’s just the procrastaholic in me.

Anyway, wish me luck!

    Best wishes!

I’m sure you don’t really need good luck. You’re an amazing English aficionado and any sane person would write a glowing letter of rec for you any day–especially a highly-honored English professor. I’m sure you’ll do really very well.

But, since you asked for it, good luck!

Good luck, Jon Boy! I try and talk sense into young’uns, but if you’re willing to go all the way, Godspeed!

And it’s all done! As my junior high chemistry teacher used to say, there’s nothing left but the crying.
